President’s Message: March 2019

Fellow Homebrewers and Beer Lovers,

Spring is here! The grass is turning green, and the onion sprouts are thriving. So tune up those lawn mowers, and brew up those lawn mower beers!

The board met last Monday, and once again the meeting was quite productive. We have an exciting proposal for the club regarding the semi-annual club trip! We are also bringing back the once annual club picnic, which is tentatively planned for June, and will take place at the Royer residence (further details to come).

We are all set for the annual club barrel brew day happening on Saturday, April 6th. That’s only two weeks from Saturday, so make sure you sign up on the thread in the forum if you would like to reserve your space in the Makers Mark Cask Strength barrel! We will be brewing Don Heisler’s famous Old Ale recipe! All ingredients will be provided by the club this year! We will once again be hosting this event at Evansville Brewhouse, starting at 8 am.

As a continual reminder, the 2019 Big Turkey categories are:

Cat. 16 Dark British Beer

Cat. 27 Historical Beer

If you don’t have the BJCP app. I urge you download it. For you old fashioned folks that don’t have a smart phone, you can google BJCP guidelines and find the style descriptions.

I was so fortunate to have won the Big Turkey in 2018, and the most exciting prize by far: I got to brew my recipe with the brewers at Maiden’s last weekend! Tapping party info will be forthcoming.

Last but not least, a reminder that Wednesday’s meeting is the annual CLUB PICTURE! So be sure to wear your OVHA shirt to the meeting! And as always, don’t forget a canned good for an extra door prize ticket.

Cheers!

John
