This competition lines up nicely with our Big Turkey entries. Entries for this will be accepted from 11/13-12/1. This competition will draw from a national crowd, so if you're feeling good about any of your Big Turkey entries double down and see what happens. I'll drive entries over towards the end of the deadline, so if you enter, let me know and I'll give your entries a ride.

Registration is open for this comp. 237 entries out of 600 available have been registered. When you register, select St. Louis Wine and Beer Making as the drop off location if you want me to take your entries when I drive mine over on 11/29. Let me know if you register entries and I'll touch base with you as the time gets closer to pick up your bottles.

Nice! To make it as easy as possible I will just pick up everyone's entries at the meeting on the 29th and drive them over the next day. If you won't be at the meeting, let me know and we can coordinate something else.

OVHA takes home some medals at the STL Brews Homebrew Comp! Congrats to John Mullins and Josh Wuertz!

John took home a 1st place with his Doppelbock in the Bock category and that same beer placed 3rd in BOS.
Josh placed 3rd with his Trappist Single in the Belgian and French Ales category.

Nice work fellas! Way to represent!

Thanks Taylor!

Quick note about my Trappist Single; I had brewed it once before and submitted it to the Indiana Brewers Cup this year. Although it scored quite well then and made it to mini best for the category, I rebrewed it with some minor tweaks based on the scoresheet. Mostly I made it for drinking since I didn't foresee a competition for it. Thanks Taylor for pointing this one out.

Next year I think we can gear up early in the year for a good showing in Indy by having some feedback sheets out on the beer table (at monthly meetings)

Thanks again Taylor, for bringing this competition to our attention, and delivering our entries safe and sound!

Congrats to Josh Wuertz for your medal! And I think its awesome that you used your previous score sheets to hone in on your beer! And it payed off! That is the greatest value of entering competitions.

I am beside myself that I placed in BOS! If anyone remembers sampling my Doppelbock at Tin Man, this was that beer. I will be sure to bring another bottle to the holiday party.

I like the scoresheets at the samples table during meetings idea. Competitions are great, but there is the cost barrier, so if we can build confidence in beers before entering them in comps we can not only place better, but encourage people to take the leap and submit entries when they may have been in the fence in the past.

Last note, a big part of improving the quality of your beer is just putting in the work and brewing more beer. John is a prime example of that this year and it paid off with his finish at STL Brew Comp. Congrats again guys!
